Instructional coaching is an increasingly common term in the education system that started with Jim Knight’s writings and research. Many schools now have access to instructional coaches but aren’t sure how to identify and implement effective coaching.

When coaching programs are successful, schools see higher student achievement, increased teacher retention, and an overall improvement in the learning environment.

The loss of an educator is felt system-wide.

Teacher turnover harms the morale of the whole school; not only the students but also the educators who are left to carry the burden of teacher vacancies. It’s a hardship schools can mitigate with the support of an instructional coaching program rooted in Jim Knight’s Partnership Principles.

The coaching provided by the Instructional Coaching Group is tailored to educators who are designing, implementing, or overseeing a coaching program. Our goal is to help educators maintain successful and long-term coaching programs that create positive impacts on the school environment.

How We Work

ICG’s work is supported by research that we use to inform our professional development offerings and consulting practice. The goal of that research and of the broader work of ICG is for every student to receive excellent instruction every day, in every class.

We have been studying instructional coaching for more than two decades. The goal of our research has always been to improve education for every student. Jim Knight has authored many articles over the years as instructional coaching has grown from a concept to an industry where Jim and ICG have paved the way.

Professional Development

We host workshops and institutes to help coaches, teachers, and administrators learn and implement the factors, habits, and strategies they need to succeed. We offer public and private workshop cohorts in person and online. ICG consultants can also work directly with educators in their schools through custom programming.

Consulting

ICG’s consultants are exclusively trained and certified by Jim Knight. They are available to meet with districts to help create long-term plans and support a highly effective instructional coaching program in their schools.

Ideal for instructional coaches, coaching champions, superintendents, principals, staff developers, and other administrators, our consulting typically consists of one ICG consultant partnering with a small number of key decision-makers. Sessions can either be facilitated by Jim Knight or with an ICG consultant
