Gary Bloom is an author and national consultant focusing on teacher and school leadership development, coaching, and supervision. He is the former Superintendent of Santa Cruz City Schools. Prior to joining SCCS, Gary co-founded the New Teacher Center at the University of California Santa Cruz and served as its Associate Director for School Leadership.
Prior service has included bilingual K-12 teaching, site and central office administration, and as university faculty. Gary has presented and consulted with local, state, and national agencies in the United States and abroad. He has presented at national and international conferences and is the author of articles on topics related to instruction, school leadership, and professional development.
Gary is lead author of Blended Coaching: Skills and Strategies to Support the Development and Supervision of Professional Educators, Powerful Partnerships: A Handbook for Principals Mentoring Assistant Principals, and of Coaching-Based Supervision for Principal Supervisors. He is co-editor of The Peer Assistance and Review Reader.
Among other current commitments, he serves pro bonoas Senior Consultant to Colegio Horizontes in Chajul Guatemala, does ongoing work with the Hawaii and Delaware State Departments of Education, and has multiple engagements with school districts and other education agencies across the United States.
