Most people walk away from our workshops with a clear understanding of the importance of the partnership principles and they are energized by the idea of how the partnership principles could work for their entire school or organization.

As a result, the most logical question for so many is, "I have a clear understanding of the partnership principles, now how do I create the conditions for the rest of our school or organization to begin to think about the importance of the partnership principles and the impact they could have on learning, leading, and creating a positive school culture?"

So, we wanted to provide you with a brief protocol you can follow to bring the partnership principles into your school, district, or organization.

Why the Partnership Principles are Important

The partnership principles is about a way of being for mutually humanizing interactions. Principles guide our actions whether we are conscious of them or not. They provide us with a theoretical framework for being, but they are also very practical. They help us determine what to do in new or ambiguous situations. Principles also help us describe both the person we are and the person we want to be.

Defining the Partnership Principles

There are seven partnership principles that guide the work we do: equality, choice, voice, dialogue, praxis, reflection, and reciprocity.

  • Equality: I see others as equal partners in conversations.
  • Choice: I believe others should have a lot of autonomy.
  • Voice: I want to hear what others have to say.
  • Dialogue: Our conversations should be back and forth.
  • Praxis: Learning in action.
  • Reflection: Looking back, looking at, looking ahead.
  • Reciprocity: Conversations should be life-giving.

The Partnership Principles Jigsaw

Create a jigsaw learning structure as a way to deepen understanding, create meaningful interactions, and amplify the voices in the room. In this case, you could take your audience and create teams for each of the partnership principles.

As you facilitate the interactive portion of this workshop, keep in mind that the partnership principles should be modeled throughout your time.
