The Coach’s Playlist is a two-minute read packed with information based on an essential part of coaching.

This week’s topic: Moralistic Judgment

The Idea

People will not want to open up to someone who judges them moralistically. We won’t run for help to someone who will roll their eyes when we talk. A better approach is the opposite of moralistic judgment, positive affirmation.

Quotation

“There are many ways to roll our eyes that don’t involve our eyes” —Michael Fullan

Book

Marshall Rosenberg, Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life

Resource

Take the Judgment Challenge

Video

Jim Knight explains why judgment is a “learning killer.”

Question

Do you agree that moralistic judgment damages relationships and learning opportunities? Do you want to change anything about your behavior?
